It's the 6th of June, 2023 show! Welcome! But first...

Early morning sun and haze, 7:00 a.m. Greenwich CT.

Step outside, look up in the sky and smell the air.

On Wednesday morning the 7th, I awakened, took an early morning walk in the woods -discovering that wildfires in Eastern Canada were making a substantial impact on the entire northeastern region of the country. It's history in the making. We're all witnesses.

Haze from those fires has descended like never before in our lifetimes. Please exercise caution.

If you are susceptible to respiratory symptoms, please stay indoors with your windows closed and with air-conditioners on. Hopefully, conditions will return to seasonal norms quickly.

180 Otter Rock Drive, Belle Haven.

On Greenwich in the Gilded Age, our visit will take us to Italian Villa once located at 180 Otter Rock Drive at Belle Haven Place. Its owner was Stanley B. Tyler. The house was designed by Greenwich-native Frederick G.C. Smith, who also designed Greenwich Hospital on Parsonage Road. It was built in 1899 and demolished in 2017. This story was made possible by Matt Bernard, author of Victorian Summer: The Historic Houses of Belle Haven Park, Greenwich, Connecticut.

On History From Home, you'll learn about a summer 2022 excavation on the grounds of the Bush Holley House in Cos Cob by Dean McKenna.

Wilcox Factory, founded 1828, on the Byram River off Riversville Road.

On Greenwich Life As It Is-And Was, Columnist Erwin Edwards took his readers in 1922 on a journey: Byram River: What It Was, What It Is Now, and Might Be.

There has rarely been a shortage of "serious matters" confronting the people of Greenwich, Connecticut. One of those was the tooting whistles of locomotive trains engaged by engineers who "seemed to take pleasure in keeping up as regularly and constantly as they passed through town."

We continue to observe the 125th anniversary of the founding of the Greenwich Police Department on Crimes and Misdemeanors. On today's show, we'll take you back over a century ago with the arson and assault case of James and Jennie Watt who had "woven themselves into a complicated story which might well furnish a plot for a Conan Doyle detective story."

And in other historical news, you'll hear about the founding of the Edgewood Country Club, the purchase of Betts Academy by Brunswick School, and more as Greenwich, Connecticut's history continues to unfold.

Father's Day is on June 18. Make the Greenwich Historical Society's Museum Store your destination for that special gift for him. Located at 47 Strickland Road in Cos Cob -and online- it's the discerning shopper's destination for unique Father's Day gifts. Enjoy convenient online shopping and pickup, ample free parking, complimentary gift wrapping -and coffee or tea on-the-house in the Artist's Cafe.

There’s lots to see, to do, and to learn about the history of the Town of Greenwich.

You’ve come to the right place to learn about the history of the Town of Greenwich, Connecticut, one of America's most interesting and extraordinary communities.

We’ll have all this -and more- as our history continues to unfold.
