On Greenwich in the Gilded Age, we’ll visit the estate known as ‘Italian Villa,’ thanks to Victorian Summer: The Historic Houses of Belle Haven Park, Greenwich, Connecticut by Matt Bernard.
What happened in Year 1961?
In 1936 a crew of Greenwich Sea Scouts voyaged to Block Island and Newport -in was not smooth sailing.
A “Lizzie Ford Protest” erupted in Belle Haven when the community postman exchanged his car for a newer model -and the residents were not amused.
Area residents from neighboring Westchester County, New York held a “Treasure Hunt” that eventually brought them to Greenwich’s Pickwick Arms Hotel
On Crimes and Misdemeanors, speeding buses were a matter of concern a century ago.
A pretty waitress who worked at a restaurant on Greenwich Avenue eloped with the owner -and it made front page news.
We'll have all this -and more- as our history continues to unfold.
The Greenwich Historical Society is hosting a series of exhibitions and public events -and you're invited!
Show podcast episodes are posted weekly on various social media platforms.
I also encourage you to like and visit the group You Know You're From Greenwich Ct If, where links to the show are posted weekly, too.
